Same Day Crowns – A Modern Approach to an Age-Old Solution

Our dentist pointing to a model of a crown

Are you feeling self-conscious about your smile?

Maybe you’ve noticed a broken or chipped tooth?

If so, a dental crown is one of the best options to protect, restore, and revitalize your smile.

In the past, this tried-and-true procedure would take multiple appointments to complete. Plus, while you waited for your dentist to work with a laboratory, you’d have to wear a temporary crown in the meanwhile.

That process works well enough, but it also takes a lot of time. And we all know how frustrating it is to wait for something, especially something as important as dental health.

But what if there was a way to avoid all that?

What if you could get a crown in just one visit and walk away smiling?

That’s not a fantasy anymore – it’s a reality (and a convenient one at that) thanks to modern CEREC technology.

The Advantages of CEREC Same-Day Crowns

Affinity’s CEREC same-day crowns achieve everything you could ever want in a crown:

  • Saves Time and Money: No need for the inconvenience (and cost) of additional visits.
  • No Goopy Impressions: Traditional impressions are replaced with new digital imaging techniques, maximizing comfort.
  • Precision: Thanks to digital imaging, your crown fits perfectly – every time.
  • No Temporaries: “Same-day” means you leave the office with your new smile, not a placeholder.
  • Natural Looking: Your new crown is precisely color-matched to your natural teeth.
  • Durable and Easily Maintained: Crowns are designed to last for years, and are immune to traditional decay.

Six Steps to a CEREC Same-Day Crown

The CEREC same-day crown process reduces the time required for fitting a crown into a single dental appointment. Here is what you can expect when you visit Dr. Youssef for a crown.

Examination and Screening

If you’re worried about a toothache, cracked tooth, or pain in the gum, your dentist will work with you to evaluate your oral health.

Not all conditions are as serious as they might appear, and not all situations require a crown. In general, crowns are most suited to cases of structural damage to the teeth.

The important thing is that Dr. Youssef will work with you to review your past and present dental history before deciding on potential courses of treatment.

Treatment and Crown Preparation

Depending on the condition of the tooth and your overall oral health, Dr. Youssef will remove any infected, weak, or damaged dental tissue.

Next comes the preparation of the tooth. For this, we remove a layer of enamel to make room for the crown. Removing the enamel also roughens the surface of the tooth, providing a better bonding surface for the crown.

Intraoral Scanning

Your dentist will then create a digital image of your mouth. This image will capture the new unique shape of the prepared tooth. This is all connected to a computer with CEREC design software, which processes the intraoral scans and feeds them into a CEREC milling machine.

Modeling and Design

The CEREC milling machine will use the scans to create a 3D model of your tooth or teeth. The dentist will design a crown that fits perfectly over the prepared tooth.

A major advantage of CEREC crowns is that you get to see a preview of what your teeth will look like after the process. Then, you can discuss the design, ask questions, and request adjustments.

The Making of a Smile

Once all adjustments are made, the final design is sent to the milling machine. Similar to a 3D printer, the milling unit will use the design to carve a crown out of a small block of ceramic.

Fitting

Last but certainly not least, your dentist will use dental adhesive/cement to bond your new crown to the tooth. Your new smile is ready to go!

Immediate Aftercare

Remember to take things slowly immediately after the process. Any numbness from the anesthetic will take a few hours to wear off.

It’s possible you may need a couple of days to adjust to the new crown, but after that, you won’t even notice it’s there. And neither will anyone else.

Give Your Smile Crowning Glory in One Dental Visit

Affinity’s same-day CEREC crowns are a convenient (and effective) treatment for patients on the go. Contrary to what you may expect, same-day crowns are just as effective and high-quality as traditional crowns, although have a slightly shorter lifespan.
